Should you build me back
from these broken bones
grant me wings
that I may fly away,
away from here,
from all that is familiar.
Should you assemble me
as you gather these scattered parts
leave out my heart
or, if you must,
give me a heart of diamond
so it will never break, never shatter.
Should you paint a picture of me
as you sculpt my features
a new face I plead you give me
so I may roam unrecognized
by the people who loved me
by those whom I will love for all eternity.
Should you pull my soul back
from this land of forgotten dreams
one thing I pray remains the same
let my have my memories,
painful they may be,
for without them
I am no longer me.
